With the aim of achieving internationalization and promoting interdisciplinary studies, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) will host the "Ocean Dreams" - 2024 International Summer School on Ocean and Civil Engineering (the 2024 ISS) from July 21 to August 4, 2024 at SJTU's Minhang Campus and the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering. The 2024 ISS is planning to extend invitations to distinguished experts and scholars in the fields of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Mechanics, and Civil Engineering to deliver lectures on the latest advancements, research hotspots, and future directions in related disciplines. The 2024 ISS aims to facilitate cross-cultural communication and foster mutual learning among domestic and international students through a diverse range of activities, including lectures, seminars, workshops, visiting corporation, cultural showcases, as well as poster exhibitions. With the support of the OCE of SJTU as well as the State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering, the 2024 ISS promises to be a high-quality platform for academic exchange to establish a platform for graduate and doctoral students to engage in enriching international exchange activities that broaden their perspectives. Additionally, the 2024 ISS aims to ignite students' passion and creativity in learning and communication while fostering global camaraderie among educators and learners, thereby laying a strong foundation for nurturing interdisciplinary talents with a global vision. Project and Organizer: “Ocean Dreams” —— 2023 International Summer School on Ocean and Civil Engineering, the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering(OCE)
Eligibility:The invitation is extended to senior undergraduate students (junior or above) and master students or PhD candidates specializing in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Mechanics, Civil Engineering, and other related disciplines from around the world.
Activities: Academic lectures conducted in English, collaborative team discussions, educational visits to campus and museums, enterprise tour, poster and report exchanges, etc.
Scholarship: In order to encourage greater participation from domestic and international students interested in the fields of shipbuilding, mechanics, and civil engineering, as well as to foster international cooperation and exchanges, selected outstanding students of the "Ocean Dreams" International Summer School will be awarded a scholarship of up to 5000 CNY (about 700 USD abroad) / 3,000 CNY (domestic). This scholarship will cover transportation expenses, accommodation costs, and meals during their stay in Shanghai (Invoice is necessary). The Summer School will not offer additional funding if the applicant has already received other scholarships.
Fee explanation: The Summer School offers free tuition, while the study materials, expenses of outings and visits during the program are also provided. However, students are responsible for their own transportation expenses to and from Shanghai, as well as accommodation and meals. The Summer School will arrange hotel with twin bed rooms at a rate of 100 yuan per person per day.

Registration preparation materials: A Personal Resume (CV) in English or Chinese, including: (1) brief description of your personal basic information, subject specialization and research interests, (2) academic publications (if any), (3) participation in research projects and social activities (if any), (4) individual awards and skills.

Introduction of Organizer: The School of Ocean and Civil Engineering(OCE) consists of four departments: Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Civil Engineering, and Transportation Engineering. At present, the school offers five bachelor degree programs, six master degree programs, and five engineer master degree programs. Departments of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, and Civil Engineering offer PhD programs of respective disciplines and host Postdoctoral Research Stations. The OCE also features two state key disciplines (i.e., Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, and Mechanics), and two Shanghai key disciplines (i.e., Fluid Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering). The OCE has a group of internationally leading-edge laboratories and testing facilities, such as State Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering, National Demonstration Center for Experimental Mechanics Education, Key Laboratory of Marine Intelligent Equipment and System of Ministry of Education, Key Laboratory of Hydrodynamics of Ministry of Education, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Digital Operation and Maintenance of Public Buildings and Infrastructures and other national and provincial scientific research bases. The OCE always pay great attention in scientific research, accomplished full-sea deep unmanned submersible, large cruise, full ocean depth heavy-loaded operating mining vehicle, large offshore cutter suction dredger, the “HYSY 981” and other major research projects, making considerable development and remarkable achievements in term of scientific research.
